What is the most popular sport in the country? No prizes for guessing! It is definitely cricket. No matter how many tournaments have come to entertain the cricket fans, nothing comes even close to the world cup. Cricket world cup 2019 is not going to any different; there has been a lot of enthusiasm for the coming world cup too.
This edition of the world cup is the 12th edition of the tournament which is set to be played from the 30th May 2019 to 14th July 2019. This time cricket world cup 2019 host is going to be England. England has successfully gained the hosting rights in the month of April in 2018.
England and Wales was also in running for the hosting rights of the 2015 ICC world cup too however, they withdrew from the competition for bidding for the hosting rights. Then, the hosting rights were awarded to Australia and New Zealand for the 2015 tournament.
History of World Cup and England:
This is not the first time when England and Wales are hosting the world cup. In fact, it is the fifth time that these countries are jointly hosting the world cup. The country has been the host of the world cup for the four times in the past. It has hosted the world cup in the years 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999.
There are a total of 11 venues that are set to host the world cup matches In England and Wales. The first match however, will be hosted in the The Oval and the finals of the world cup will be hosted in the historical Lord’s stadium.
The semifinal matches will be help in Edgbaston in the city of Birmingham and Warwickshire county. Another semifinal match will be played in the Old Trafford stadium in the city of Manchester in County of Lancashire.
Changes in the Venues:
As per the initial fixture list that the ICC released on 26 April 2018 after the ICC meeting in Kolkata London stadium is one of the venues where matches were to be played. This could also be corroborated with the fact that in 2017 January ICC team has inspected the ground and approved the pitch dimension to be complaint of the required standards to host world cup game. However, In the recently announced fixtures the London stadium is not part of the list of the venues.
